Poem: Anne

Just like every

teenage girl

hating her mother

adoring her father

(knock knock–run and hide)

confounded by her

changing body

as her clothing shrank

(keep quiet–voices down)

With her big voice

and own ideas

all alone and feeling

unloved

(thump thump–what was that?)

Just a girl

with a yellow star

who said what she felt

(Move that there!)

So the world would

live the truth

(Come with us!)

Forever

Poem: 1956

Forbidden love

is tossed back

into the arms of the hand

the throw of the gamble

that most fear to play

Yet

under cover

‘neath the sweaty dark

of the hidden night

in the pulsing fury

of times angry divide

A union

of color

entangled together

through tension and tender

White wanting in concealed desire

wrapped in Black brave

Heart marches

toward an outlawed end

Bound

Round

Babe

Racial

Bye

Given gone away

to spare the agony

of blasphemous belonging

Two

split to wander separate worlds

One

drowning in the blood

of both

Poem: I Am Flowers

wpid-img_20150816_194741.jpg

I am Snap Dragon

with fire fingers

which have lost their click

I am Rose

that has learned to kneel

to hide my height

I am Queen Anne’s Lace

now a pauper

begging for freedom

I am Bird Of Paradise

wings clipped

roaming the sands

I am Tulip

mouth quiet

because no-one will listen

I am Bleeding Heart

ever battling

slowly dying

I am Iris

forever watching

but never seen

I am Freesia

saving your soul

while lost in the night

I am Marigold

filled with riches

only a few can see

And I Crocus

much as I speak

I’m heard as a toad

We are Pink

We are Hellebore

We are Mugwort

And Phlox

Touch-Me-Not

for I can never be

reached

Poem: Surrender

I surrender

lay down among the fallen

my own weak and weary comrades

Those who have marched

with me all along

The fiercely fighting soldiers

taking battles to the blood

I look down on the hillside

upon the fallen foe

and see such devastation

discarded  in my moving through

wondering what I did

It may just be sweeter

to lay it all down

surrender to the flowing wind

that blows along the hard edged ridges

surrounding my peaceful

mind

Poem: Peaceful World

It seems a peaceful world

with rabbit clouds gazing

and mockingbirds singing

crisp hymnals

It seems a peaceful world

as the lime green

endorfin drenched runner

appears happy to be done

And the leaves

blow harmony

to the gentle fingers of wind

It seems a peaceful world

as the golden melt

of the pouring sun

slips down on

waiting waters

glazing it with riches

Yes

It seems a peaceful world

as it wakes

again

ready to start

anew
