Poem: Four Chambers

Portraits

painted on a four chambered heart

each room an echo

a synchronized sharing of the apex

The fluttering climax

upon squeezing beats seeing beauty

And the hiccupping hitch

when gathering moments of newly formed love

Or the sudden thud

of rock dropping grief when its gone

gone

Oh the silent tap tap

when at peace

hand upon your breast

knowing

that what you feel

is the artist

who paints your life

Poem: The Artist

Turning inside out

exposing raw reality buried

under layers of hidden sinew

meant to stay tucked

the quiet fist of crazy

crouched behind daylight

They dragged it out

in slanted moments

It came at times

unwilling

and others

leaping out of its den

But once loose

It pleased Pandora

and never would return

Now free to torment

its fire burns beauty

until the brilliance

dies out

Connection

This amazing painting was created by the most  important, talented and influential person in my life. She has been an artist for many, many years working in all sorts of of mediums from oils to stone, much of it self taught. This talent moved her to become a teacher herself where she was respected by a host of adults who never dreamed of creating gorgeous stone sculptures prior to her tutelage.

I have always believed she could do anything she put her mind to (except maybe fix a leaky faucet, but that’s another story) and felt if you could read you could do anything.

This painting is her latest, started before she became quite ill. It sat for some time and she feared she wouldn’t finish it, but it’s a testament to her strength and perseverance that she did.

I’m blessed with it’s beauty now on my wall which will be a constant reminder of her beauty. It’s intricacies remind me too that we all have depth that is worth exploring.

It is with gratitude that I accept such a gift and love is what I return. And whenever I look at it I will always feel my deep connection with this most special person, my Mom.

Well maybe not. I won’t dare share the first attempt at using these as one would think a 3rd grader produced the ‘painting’. 🙂 But I did enjoy it and found it relaxing. One can only spend so much time alone and reading and waiting for the next phase to happen without going stir crazy. This seemed like a good distraction. Who knows, maybe I will eventually be brave enough to post one!
