Poem: Rainbow

Like zombies they walk

Arms outstretched begging for something

Night creatures living in the day

Faking human lives

Down streets and alleyways lumbering they go

Chomping on flesh

Eating souls

And surviving on the goodwill of others

Straining the juices from the giving

They look like us

Pretending to care

But if you look, their walk is hollow and empty

The trap

When you’re blinded:

The lure of circles

Of friendships entwined, twisted and wrapped

So closely

Real and breathing

Tangible things

Relied upon when the darkness envelopes

In the end no more real

Than a rainbow

Created by rain and sun

Glanced upon momentarily with joy only briefly

Only to disappear

When you need to see it most again
